‘Police want to get rid of unregistered prepaid phones’
The police want to ban unregistered prepaid telephones, because mainly criminals would use the telephones. All About Phones writes this on Friday evening based on a report available to the site.
Malicious persons use the unregistered devices to commit crimes. They are then anonymous, the police write in the report. “Owning an unregistered prepaid phone and the resulting anonymity appears to be a basic crime requirement for many criminals.” In doing so, they would not only be guilty of matters such as human trafficking and drug crime, but also of terrorist actions.
The police want buyers of prepaid devices to be able to use the devices only once they have registered with the provider. In addition, they must have made a payment by bank transfer. For example, the police hopes to ban the alleged anonymity offered by unregistered devices.
The police report for the banning of the prepaid devices is currently before the Ministry of Security and Justice for consideration, All About Phones further knows. The ministry is assessing whether a possible ban will go ahead. In countries such as Germany and Switzerland, a prepaid SIM card must already be registered.
