700 million people use Facebook on mobile every day

Every day, 703 million people log in to Facebook via their mobile phone. This is evident from figures released by Facebook when it presented its quarterly results. This means that most users who log in every day are also active on their phone.

A total of 864 million people log on to Facebook every day; the vast majority of them also log in on mobile, according to Facebook’s quarterly figures. 1.4 billion users log in every month. Of those, 1.1 billion are also active on their phones.

Visits to Facebook are still increasing: the number of daily active users increased 19 percent compared to a year ago. The number of users who log in on their mobile every day even increased by 39 percent. The growth in the total number of users who log in is decreasing.

The figures also show that WhatsApp, which was acquired by Facebook, made a loss of 140 million dollars last year. The chat service achieved a turnover of only 10 million dollars. Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $18.1 billion, or €14.2 billion. That while Facebook estimated the fair market value of WhatsApp at only $ 2.7 billion, according to the quarterly figures.

In a conference call with investors, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg indicated that the social networking site wants to bet more on video, reports The Wall Street Journal. Facebook has been trying to convince users for some time not to upload and embed their videos to YouTube, but post them directly on Facebook. For example, users can now see how often a video has been viewed.

During the conference call, Zuckerberg also addressed the criticism that Facebook has received for removing Messenger functionality from the Facebook app. Recently, this functionality can only be accessed via the separate Messenger app. According to Zuckerberg, it doesn’t work well on phones to put all functionality under one roof, as it does on the desktop.

Facebook achieved a turnover of 3.2 billion dollars in the past quarter, or 2.5 billion euros. A year ago that was still 2 billion dollars, converted 1.5 billion euros. The profit amounted to 806 million dollars, converted 632.8 million euros. A year ago that was just over half.
