Sony rolls out update 2.0 with Share Play support for PS4
Sony has started rolling out Update 2.0 for the PlayStation 4. The update, codenamed Masamune, brings with it some innovations such as the Share Play feature, a YouTube app and the USB Music Player.
According to Sony, it is the largest PS4 update that has been released so far and the Share Play function is probably the most important innovation. With that functionality, a player can invite friends to watch or play a game. The invitees do not have to own or even download the game in question. A kind of local co-op session is created online and then can be played together or the control can be passed in single player. To host a Share Play session, PlayStation Plus membership is required for all players.
It will also be possible to play music via USB devices. The USB device just needs to be plugged into the PS4 and then the music can be played. It is pointed out that it is impossible to copy the music files to the HDD of the PS4. The application also cannot be used at the same time as Music Unlimited.
Update 2.0 also brings a number of smaller changes. For example, a YouTube app is introduced, which can be used to watch videos and upload gameplay footage directly to the video service. This can be done by pressing the share button. In addition, some themes, colors, and search filters are added to the console.
