HP provides tablets with Snapdragon 801 and stylus based on ultrasound
HP plans to release the Pro Slate 8 and Pro Slate 12. The tablets, with an 8″ and a 12″ touchscreen respectively, come with a Duet Pen, a stylus that works on the basis of ultrasound. Furthermore, the tablets are equipped with a Snapdragon 801 soc.
The 850-gram Pro Slate 12 has a 12.3″ touchscreen with a resolution of 1600×1200 pixels and an aspect ratio of 4:3. Internally, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 soc from Qualcomm clocked at 2.3GHz is placed. 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, expandable with micro SD cards.The tablet also has an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front. The tablet is also equipped with NFC, 802.11ac WiFi and bluetooth 4.0, while a nano-SIM can also be placed in the tablet, so that mobile 4G communication is possible.The tablet has a 37Wh battery.
According to the data published on Tabtech, the HP Pro Slate 8 contains a 7.7″ touchscreen with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. This tablet also has the Snapdragon 801 soc and 2GB of RAM, but the storage is limited to 16GB and the camera on the back offers a resolution of 7 megapixels, but communication via 4g is possible.
Both tablets come with the Duet Pen, a Qualcomm-developed stylus that uses ultrasound. There are five microphones in the tablets for this to determine the position of the pin. With the technology, the Duet Pen can be used not only on the touchscreen to take notes, but also near the laptop, for example on a notepad. The written input is also directly visible on the tablet.
It is still unclear what the prices will be for the Android 4.4 tablets and when they will be released on the market. Information about the Pro Slate 12 is still available on HP’s website at the time of writing, but product information for the Pro Slate 8 appears to have been removed.
