The HTC-made Nexus 9 will be officially announced on Wednesday, a source told business magazine Forbes. The device would be equipped with Android L. Also ‘a smartphone from Motorola’, possibly the Nexus 6, will be introduced on Wednesday, the business magazine reports.

According to Forbes, Google initially planned to host a major event to announce the Nexus 9, but the search giant has canceled that as it is still tweaking Android L. Instead, the Nexus 9, and possibly also the Nexus 6, to be announced via a blog post. The Nexus 9 would be the first device to ship with the new Android version.

According to the business magazine, the Nexus 9 can be pre-ordered from October 17 and would be in stores from November 3. It is still unclear when the other Nexus devices will be provided with an update to Android L. Users of non-Nexus devices will in most cases have to wait longer for an official update: phone manufacturers often have to make their own shell that they put over Android suitable for the new version.

The rumors circulating about the Nexus 9 are correct, according to Forbes: the device would have an 8.9 “screen with a resolution of 2048 by 1440 pixels, a 64-bit dual-core soc on board and a Kepler GPU. According to the magazine, the rear camera has an 8 megapixel camera, the front camera is said to have 3 megapixels, and the frame is made of brushed aluminum.

Furthermore, the device would have HTC’s Boomsound speakers, which, just like with the M8 and Desire Eye, would be attached to the front.
