AMD Releases Ryzen 9 3950X and Threadripper 3rd Gen CPUs in November
AMD’s Ryzen 9 3950X will not be released in September, as the company initially announced, but in November, AMD has announced. The first third-generation Ryzen Threadripper processors should also be available in that month.
AMD has the postponement, among other things via Twitter announced. The company says it is targeting strong demand for AMD Ryzen processors and plans to introduce the Ryzen 9 3950X and the “initial members of the third-generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper family” in November. It is the first time that AMD has confirmed the arrival of the third Threadripper generation with a date. The accompanying image shows that the first processors are models with 24 cores. Later models with more cores will probably follow.
At the reveal in June, AMD was still talking about a September release for the Ryzen 9 3950X. As the month wore on, the Ryzen 9 3900X continued to be hard to come by, and rumors from DigiTimes about shortages in TSMC’s 7nm production, there was already speculation on AMD’s part of a postponement.
The Ryzen 9 3950X has 16 cores, 32 threads and a clock speed of 3.5GHz with boost to 4.7GHz. Further specifications of the third generation Threadripper are not known, although it seems certain that they support PCI-e 4.0.
