OnePlus One smartphone can save photos in raw after update
The OnePlus One smartphone can save photos in RAW after an update. This makes the CyanogenMod smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer one of the few devices that allows users to take pictures in RAW.
The option to save photos in RAW, in which Adobe’s dng format has been chosen, is in the camera interface of the OnePlus One. Saving photos in RAW gives greater possibilities to edit photos afterwards, because all data from the sensor is preserved and a photo editing program can therefore better restore colors or exposure afterwards.
The raw option is mentioned in the changelog of the update for CyanogenMod 11S on the OnePlus One. Not many phones save photos in RAW; the option would have been standard in Android 4.4, but Google decided to remove it. In addition, more expensive devices from Nokia’s Lumia line and those from Xiaomi have the option. Shooting in RAW does not only have advantages: an image takes up much more space and especially on smartphones with limited storage capacity, it means that the user can store fewer photos.
In addition to support for raw, the update includes support for ant+, a wireless standard that is mainly found in many fitness equipment. In addition, users can play flac files without resampling, among other things, many bugs have been squashed and battery life is said to be improved. The update will reach users over-the-air. OnePlus released its One smartphone this summer, but the company still uses a system of invitations to buy the device.
