Apple CarPlay comes out for existing devices for the first time

Apple CarPlay was released via a software update to Pioneer’s Nex line of in-car systems. It is the first time that products are equipped with Apple’s car software. This puts Apple competitor Google too fast.

Pioneer says it will begin the update for various devices on Thursday, which will provide the software with Apple’s CarPlay platform. Users can install the update by downloading it, putting it on a USB stick and inserting it into the system’s USB port.

It is the first time that a manufacturer releases updates with CarPlay, with which the system comes to the market for the first time. The intention is that various manufacturers will use the Apple software as an update, but also integrate it in systems of new cars.

Apple announced CarPlay 15 months ago as “iOS in the car,” a variant of its mobile operating system for use in in-car entertainment systems. That software works with iPhones and users can in this way handle phone calls, receive messages and play music.

In addition to Apple, Google is also working on car software, in this case under the name Android Auto. That software hasn’t come out yet.
