The CEO of Microsoft Indonesia has let slip that Windows 9 will be a free upgrade for existing Windows 8 users. The Technology Preview of Windows 9 will probably be released next week.

Users shouldn’t have to do much to update their systems to the new version of the OS, Andreas Diantoro, CEO of Microsoft Indonesia, according to Indonesian site Detik, said: “Once Windows 9 comes out, Windows 8 users will only need to connect their device update. After that, Windows 9 will be installed automatically.”

Microsoft is holding an event on September 30 and it is believed that the software giant will then announce the new Windows version, which has been codenamed Threshold until now. The CEO of Microsoft France previously hinted that the OS will be released as Windows 9. From screenshots and videos it is known that the new Windows version will include a traditional start menu with Live Tile integration, Modern UI apps with window view and a notification center. Microsoft also provides the software with its digital assistant Cortana.
