Microsoft confirms September 30 meeting on Windows
Microsoft sent invitations to the media on Monday evening in which the software giant announced a press conference for the end of this month. Most likely, the American company will show the successor to Windows 8.
Microsoft will hold the event on September 30 in San Francisco. There it will tell you how it sees the future of Windows and the ‘enterprise’, indicating that the successor will be announced then. The server edition will also be treated then, reports the usually well-informed Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet.
The invitation is in line with rumors that previously appeared about Windows Threshold, as the code name of the new operating system is. Those rumors spoke of the first preview to users coming online at the end of this month or early next month. The final version, on the other hand, should see the light of day in the spring of next year.
Threshold, which is expected to be Windows 9, should focus more on desktop users. For example, the start menu returns and Microsoft would like to remove the charms bar from the desktop environment. Furthermore, the software giant wants to include the digital assistant Cortana in the operating system and there will probably be a new notification center. Microsoft is also experimenting with upgrading the operating system without reinstallation.
