Logo should distinguish uhdtvs from hdtvs
Digital Europe, the organization that represents the European technology industry, has published the logo to quickly inform consumers in-store which models are UHDTVs. To be allowed to wear the logo, hdmi 2.0 with hdcp 2.2 is required.
At the same time as the logo, Digital Europe published during the IFA the requirements that a TV must meet in order to be able to bear the mark. These go beyond the requirements that the CEA sets for TVs to be designated as ‘ultra hd’.
The resolution of the screen or display engine must be at least 3840×2160 pixels with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The input must receive that resolution via hdmi 2.0 with hdcp 2.2 copy protection, at 60fps and with a minimum color depth of 8 bits and based on the ITU color gamut standard Rec.709. The chroma subsampling should be 4:2:0 at 50fps/60fps and 4:2:2 at 24fps/25fps/30fps. In the audio field, the TV must be able to receive PCM stereo signal via HDMI.
Most first-generation UHDTVs were not yet equipped with HDMI 2.0; the first appeared in September last year. The UHDTV models that manufacturers announced this year are often equipped with the latest HDMI generation.
