Rumor: Microsoft stops using Nokia and Windows Phone brand names
Internal documents would indicate that Microsoft plans to no longer use the Nokia and Windows Phone brand names. In a promotional campaign for the holidays, Microsoft hopes to complete the ‘transition’ to the replacements Lumia and Windows.
That is according to GeekOnGadgets, which has gained insight into internal documents from Microsoft. According to The Verge, the documents obtained by the site are authentic. The Nokia brand name will expire if the messages are correct. Instead, Microsoft probably wants to use the Lumia brand name already used for the smartphones of the former Nokia. With the brand name Windows Phone for the mobile operating system, the suffix ‘phone’ will be dropped in the future. The logo will also be replaced.
According to documents available to GeekOnGadgets, the Nokia and Windows Phone brand names will no longer be referenced during the promotions planned for the holiday season. By the way, there were recently promotional videos from Microsoft where Windows was mentioned instead of Windows Phone.
Earlier there were rumors that Microsoft wants to drop its own brand name Surface in favor of Lumia. Microsoft has been trying to streamline its brand names for some time now.
