TiVo builds rack-mounted DVR with six tuners and 24TB storage
TiVo has developed a DVR that is placed in a 19″ rack-mounted housing. The digital video recorder has ten hard drives with a total of 24TB of gross storage. The so-called TiVo Mega also has six HD tuners.
The hard disks in the TiVo Mega have a capacity of 3TB. These ten drives are configured in a raid5 setup, good for 24TB of storage. TiVo has placed six HD tuners in the rack-mounted housing. The manufacturer states that the available hard disk space is good for more than 26,000 hours of stored TV programs in SD quality and approximately 4,000 hours of TV content in HD quality.
TiVo runs its own operating system on the TiVo Mega. Recorded content cannot be retrieved externally with regular hardware; only the company’s TiVo set-top boxes and mobile apps can access the recordings on the server.
The TiVo Mega is expected to hit the market next year. According to TiVo, the DVR will cost about $5,000 on the American market, which is approximately $3,880. In addition, the buyer receives a lifelong subscription to the services of TiVo.
