‘LG releases 75-inch TV with 8k resolution for 4000 euros’
LG’s 75SM99 LCD television with a screen diagonal of 75 “and an 8k resolution will be on the market later this year for 4000 euros, Hardware Info reports. This makes the TV a lot cheaper than its counterpart from Samsung.
Last week, LG announced that its 88Z9 and 75SM99 televisions will be launched in the Benelux later this year. These are 8k TVs of 88″ and 75″. LG did not yet mention recommended prices, but according to Hardware Info, the price of the smallest model is 4000 euros. The website learned of this at the IFA fair in Berlin. A price for the larger version with OLED panel is not yet mentioned.
Currently there are only 8k TVs in the Pricewatch from Samsung and Sharp. The prices of the 8k models from Samsung’s Q900R series have fallen considerably. The 75 “model is available in stores for 3500 euros, while that was 5000 euros earlier this year. However, that Samsung TV does not have an HDMI 2.1 input and it is therefore not possible to send 8k images to it via external devices The successors in the Q950R series do have HDMI 2.1, but the 75 “model of it is in the Pricewatch for at least 5800 euros and at many stores for 7000 euros.
If LG’s 75SM99 comes out for 4000 euros, it would be the cheapest TV that combines an 8k resolution with HDMI 2.1 connections. The additional cost compared to 4k TVs remains substantial. 75″ 4k LCD TVs with a fald backlight are currently available from 2300 euros. It is not yet clear when the 8k TVs from LG will be released; the manufacturer has indicated that the models will appear sometime in the autumn.
