Huawei subsidiary Honor has unveiled its new PocketVision app for the visually impaired at the IFA fair in Berlin. The app can read, zoom and adjust colors using AI chips in the Honor smartphones.

Combinations of the functions are also possible. For example, a piece of text can be zoomed in for better readability, then the color of the text and the background can be changed, and finally the text can be recognized and read to make sure that the text is well understood. Microsoft introduced a similar app in 2017, but for iOS.

However, the app is presented as exclusive to the Honor 20 Pro smartphone, a device of 499 euros. However, according to VentureBeat, which was able to preview the app, it’s possible that any Huawei and Honor phone that has the necessary AI features and lenses can download the app. It’s on Huawei’s AppGallery store and not the Play Store. The app will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian and Chinese.
