YouTube adds option to continue watching videos from phone on PC
YouTube has added a new feature that allows users to continue watching videos they started on the phone from the same point on a desktop via a mini player at the bottom of the screen.
With the feature, discovered by 9to5Google, YouTube remembers how far a user has watched a video on his or her mobile and then lets the user continue watching the video on the PC. When the user on the same Google account opens YouTube on a desktop, the unplayed video will automatically appear at the bottom right of the screen, in a mini player.
The function does not work the other way around; half watched video on pc does not appear in mini player on phone app. However, according to 9to5Google, it should also work for not fully viewed videos on Android TV. YouTube itself has not reported anything about the feature. In a small test, the feature didn’t work yet, so it seems the option hasn’t been rolled out to all users yet.
YouTube already remembered how far a user was with a video, but until now a user had to find the video on a desktop first. That effort is now saved with this function. Several internet browsers have also introduced such a feature with tabs, allowing tabs opened on mobile to be found through the computer browser. Microsoft Edge, among others, has recently introduced that feature.
