Rumor: Intel Rocket Lake Processors Coming March 30
Intel is rumored to release its Rocket Lake processors for desktops on March 30. All technical details about the new CPUs would be announced on March 16. It concerns 14nm processors with a new Cypress Cove architecture.
Intel indicated last year that the Rocket Lake processors will appear in early 2021. At the CES fair early this year, Intel showed benchmarks and some details of the new processors, but a full disclosure has not yet been made.
According to Wccftech, that formal presentation will follow on March 16 and the processors will be delivered from March 30. From then on, reviews of the new processors may also be put online. The tech site bases that on NDAs it has seen. Earlier, benchmark results of Rocket Lake processors appeared on a Romanian tech site.
With Rocket Lake, Intel is introducing a new microarchitecture to the desktop platform for the first time in years. The processors are equipped with Cypress Cove cores, which is presumably a backport of the Sunny Cove cores from Intel’s Ice Lake processors that are made at 10nm. Rocket Lake is made at 14nm.
The top model in the Rocket Lake series is the Core i9-11900K. That processor has eight cores, a maximum clock speed of 5.3GHz and a TDP of 125W. Intel gives its Rocket Lake processors support for DDR4 32 memory, PCIe 4.0 and an integrated USB 3.2 Gen2x2 controller. The processors keep the LGA1200 socket, but to support new features such as PCIe 4.0, a new Z590 motherboard is required.
