‘Copy of database Facebook accounts is still online’
A copy of the database of hundreds of millions of Facebook accounts is still online. That’s what a security researcher claims against Cnet. GDI Foundation found the database earlier and had the hoster remove it, but apparently a copy exists.
The data in both databases corresponds and this database was also unprotected online, claims Elliott Murray of WebProtect against Cnet. This includes the phone numbers of Facebook founders Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Hughes, but Cnet couldn’t get hold of either founder with the numbers from the database. The person with the number of Hughes does claim that she gets a lot of messages intended for the Facebook co-founder.
Murray came across the database earlier and checked it again Thursday after GDI Foundation revealed it found a database containing more than 400 million entries unprotected online. The data from both databases match so well that Murray claims with a near certainty that it is a copy of the same database.
It is still unknown who put this data online and how it was collected. According to Facebook, scraping data has not been possible for a year and a half. It is possible that data was obtained earlier and has since been supplemented: the latest data from the GDI database dates from last month. The MongoDB version of the database also indicates that it was recently updated.
