Photos show ‘thinnest’ smartphone of 5.15 mm thick
Photos have emerged of what should be Gionee’s eLife S5.1, a smartphone with a thickness of 5.15mm. This should make the device the thinnest smartphone to date. Gionee previously released a device of only 5.5mm thick with the eLife 5.5.
Photos of the eLife S5.1 appeared on the Chinese site Zol. It shows the housing of the device, which makes it clear that it is exceptionally thin. According to the specifications, the housing is 5.15mm thick to be precise. This makes the Gionee eLife S5.1 probably the thinnest smartphone in the world as soon as it comes on the market. The company has not yet officially announced the device, but the model will probably only be released in China initially.
Details about the S5.1 model came out earlier, when data appeared at a Chinese inspection body. The rear and front cameras are 8 and 5 megapixels respectively. The eLife S5.1 also has a 4.8″ screen with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and the slim housing houses a Snapdragon 400 processor. There is 1GB of RAM and the storage memory is 16GB, while the battery has a capacity of 2100mAh. The software is based on Android 4.3.
Gionee has long been known for its thin smartphones. The predecessor of the eLife S5.1, the S5.5, was previously mentioned as the thinnest smartphone available. That model is, as the name suggests, 5.5 mm thick.
