Google rolls back changes to FPS Meter in Chrome

Google rolls back changes to an fps meter in Chrome. The FPS Meter function made it possible to view the frame rate of a website. Google changed its functionality, but is reverting it after user complaints.

Google changed the way FPS Meter works in Chrome 84. Instead of an absolute number of frames per second, the meter only showed a percentage of how many frames were shown in time. More statistics were also added, for example about the number of dropped frames.

Users were not happy with the changes. At first, some even thought it was a bug. In a bug report, several developers working with Chrome complained that the new changes were undesirable. The criticism also came from Google programmers themselves. Google has therefore decided to roll back the change and still show the absolute frame rate. Users can get the details by pressing ctrl+shift+P in the developer tools.
