Intel has created a tiny 3G modem that can be used in smartwatches and other smart, small devices. According to Intel, it is even the world’s smallest 3G modem ever made.

The 3G modem, which is commercially available to manufacturers from now on, is intended for devices that do not fit a regular 3G antenna, such as smartwatches. The sign is 300 square millimeters in size and less than 15 millimeters wide. According to Intel, despite its small size, the device provides a good connection, although the company does not provide any evidence to support that claim.

The modem provides a download speed of 7.2Mbit/s and an upload speed of up to 5.76Mbit/s. Optionally, the chip can also be supplied with support for 2G. Support for assisted GPS, which can determine a user’s location via triangulation of cellular networks, can also be included.
