FBI launches investigation into DDoS attacks on PSN, Xbox Live and Battle.net
A group that operates under the name LizardSquad claims that they attacked Sony’s PSN network and Battle.net with large-scale DDOs attacks last weekend. Xbox Live would also have become a target. The FBI has launched an investigation.
The PlayStation Network has been unavailable for hours on several occasions over the past few days due to DDOs attacks. The service is now back up and running. Blizzard’s Battle.net was also a target of the attacks, as were servers from League of Legends, a game from Riot Games, and Path of Exile from Grinding Gear Games. Microsoft also reports that attacks have been carried out on Xbox Live.
The attacks were claimed on Twitter by a group operating under the alias LizardSquad. The group claims that it also forced an aircraft to choose a different route by means of a bomb threat to an airline. A Sony employee was on the plane.
Sony reports on its PlayStation blog that no personal information was stolen from PSN users by the attackers. The FBI has now launched an investigation, but the federal investigative agency has declined to comment further on the matter.
