LG: G2 will get an update to Android L next year
LG will update its G2 smartphone next year to Android L, the most recent version of the mobile operating system. The manufacturer also plans to bring the interface it designed for the G3 to other smartphones.
According to Italian product manager at LG Raffaele Cinquegrana, there are plans to release an update for the G2 next year that will bring Android L to the smartphone. He said that in a conversation with Tutto Android. A specific release date was not disclosed, which is presumably due to the fact that Google has not yet released the software. That will probably happen in the fall.
A source would also have confirmed to Tutto Android that the G2 will be equipped with the interface that LG has designed for the G3. Initially, the manufacturer did not intend to do this, but because the GUI received a lot of positive reactions, it would have been decided to also put it on the G2, according to the source. LG’s interface is placed over the Android operating system as a kind of shell, something that most major manufacturers of Android devices do.
LG already announced that it will also bring the interface of the G3, which has been simplified compared to previous versions, to new smartphones that it will release this year. This may apply to the L70+ and L80+ that the company recently announced. Just like the G3, these midrange devices have buttons on the back and support for the Quick Circle case with which notifications can be displayed through an opening in the case.
