Nintendo has responded to the unannounced taking the Wii and DSi stores offline. According to the company, the digital stores for the console and handheld have been taken offline for maintenance. Taking it offline means that users can no longer download products.

In a declaration A Nintendo spokesperson informed Kotaku that maintenance is taking place at the Nintendo Wii and DSi shops. That would mean that the shops are not definitively offline. Furthermore, the company is not disclosing any details about what exactly will happen to the online stores. Nintendo just wants to say that more information will follow at a later date.

The shops were taken offline by Nintendo around March 16 without notice. As a result, users can no longer download purchased products from the shops to their Wii or DSi. It was no longer possible to purchase new products, but it was still possible to download games and apps already purchased to the Wii and DSi.

Last February announced Nintendo also indicated that the digital shops for the Wii-U and Nintendo 3DS will close from the end of March 2023. It is then no longer possible to purchase new products. However, it is still possible to download or update content that has already been purchased.
