Microsoft is experimenting with upgrading without reinstallation in Windows 9

Microsoft is said to be working on a new way to make Windows upgrades without reinstalling. The functionality is already in the latest internal builds and may be rolled out to the technology preview, which is coming soon.

Neowin reports Friday that Microsoft is currently experimenting with making upgrades without reinstallation. This is a functionality in Windows Update, where the user would only have to press a button. After that, Windows will automatically update the system to the latest build.

For now, this is a feature that Microsoft is testing internally, but Neowin suggests that the software giant could also roll it out to the first technology preview of Windows 9. Although this is not certain, such functionality would drastically change Windows upgrades. This makes upgrades faster, allowing Microsoft to increase its release schedule.

The technology preview of Windows 9 will appear on September 30, according to the latest reports. Windows 9, also codenamed Threshold, should focus more on desktop users. For example, the start menu returns and Microsoft would also like to remove the charms bar from the desktop environment. Furthermore, the software giant wants to include the digital assistant Cortana in the operating system.
