LG makes webOS available for TVs from other manufacturers
LG makes webOS available to other manufacturers. The operating system can therefore also run on other televisions in the future, provided the manufacturers enter into a collaboration with LG.
LG writes in a press release that it wants to ‘break the status quo in the television world’ with this decision. The manufacturer refers to the fact that many manufacturers have their own operating system for televisions. Other manufacturers may license the use of webOS in the future. That means they can install the standard smart TV apps like Netflix and YouTube, as well as access technologies like voice control. LG says that certain models can also use the Magic Remote.
According to the manufacturer, more than twenty television makers have already licensed webOS. LG cites RCA, Ayonz and Konka as examples. “We expect many more in the future,” the company wrote.
