As a beating heart, the Chromebox CXI2610 includes a dual-core Intel Celeron 2957U processor. This Haswell CPU is clocked at 1.4GHz. In the cheap version, the Chromebox has 2GB DDR3 RAM as standard. There will also be a model with 4GB of RAM. Acer has provided the Chromebox with a TPM 1.2 security chip, while the so-called Powerwash function gives system administrators the option to factory reset Chromebox systems.

The CXI2610 measures 16.5x13x3.3cm and offers 16GB of flash storage. According to Acer, the Chrome OS operating system is up and running within 8 seconds. The Chromebox also has four USB 3.0 connections, two of which provide sufficient power to charge a mobile, for example. Also available are an SD card reader, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a gigabit Ethernet connection, a combined analog audio input/output and both an HDMI and a displayport output.

In the US, Acer is asking $180 for the Chromebox CXI2610 with 2GB of RAM, which is 134 euros. It includes a vesa mount, mouse and keyboard. The model with 4GB of RAM costs 220 dollars, or 166 euros. Both models will go on sale in the US from the end of September. Whether and when the Chromebox CXI2610 will come to Europe is not yet known.
