Samsung announces Galaxy A33 and A53 with four Android upgrades and IP67 rating

Samsung has announced the latest variant of its midrange Galaxy A phones. The A53 5G has a 6.5 “amoled screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The devices mainly differ from each other in the camera area.

Samsung presented the Galaxy A phones at its own event on Thursday afternoon, as expected. The phones are successors of the Galaxy A52 that came out last year. The two devices mainly differ from each other in screen and camera. For example, the cheaper A33 has a 6.4 “superamoled screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz, compared to a 6.5” screen with 120Hz. Both displays have an FHD+ resolution. In addition, the A33 only has 6GB of memory, while the A53 is also available as an 8GB model.

The big difference in the devices is in the camera. Both devices have four cameras, the better of which are on the A53. That device has a primary camera with an unknown lens with a 64-megapixel resolution with optical image stabilization. There is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, along with a 5-megapixel macro camera. Finally, the device has a camera lens that can perceive depth, and a front camera of 32 megapixels. For the A33, those specifications are all slightly less; the primary lens has 48 megapixels, and the ultra-wide-angle lens and depth camera lens are also smaller at 8 and 2 megapixels. The front camera also has fewer pixels.

The devices also both have a 5000mAh battery that can fast charge with 25W with Samsung’s own Super Fast Charging standard. The charger is not supplied with the device. Furthermore, the devices lack a 3.5 mm port. Samsung doesn’t say which soc the phones use, other than that that’s a quad-core processor with clock speeds of 2.4 and 2GHz, but probably is it an Exynos 1200.

Both units are certified with an IP67 rating for water resistance. That is quite unique with phones in that price range. Samsung delivers both phones with Android 12 and also promises at least four Android upgrades and at least five years of security updates.

The phones will be on sale from April, but not at the same time. The A53 will be on sale from April 1, the A33 from the 22nd. The devices then cost 449 or 509 euros for the A53, depending on the configuration, and 369 euros for the A33.
