‘BlackBerry will release its successor Z10 this year’
BlackBerry seems to be planning to release the successor to its Z10 smartphone this year. There are no specifications for the device yet. Furthermore, BlackBerry would also like to market a device called ‘Classic’.
That says BlackBerry Empire, which claims to have an internal e-mail sent by employees of a presumably North American telecom provider. It states that BlackBerry has quietly indicated that it will come with the Z20 this year, as a successor to the Z10. Nothing was said about the specifications of the smartphone. A specific release date is also missing; the email talks about a release ‘at the end of the year’.
The e-mail also mentions the BlackBerry Classic as a release that is still planned for this year. Rumors of this smartphone have already come out, which indicate that BlackBerry provides the Classic with the outdated dual-core MSM8960-soc from Qualcomm, which is also built into the Z10. Furthermore, 2GB of RAM is built in and the software is based on BlackBerry OS 10.3.
The e-mail also states that BlackBerry wants to release the Passport this year, an already announced smartphone with a square screen. BlackBerry itself has not yet announced an official release date, but did let go that there will be more information next month.
