Rumor: Apple will soon release a 15-inch MacBook Pro processor update

Apple seems to be planning to give all models of the 15″ MacBook Pro a processor upgrade. In addition, the cheapest model is expected to double the memory from 8GB to 16GB, at the same price.

At least that can be concluded from a Chinese price list that MacRumors writes about. There are three models on it, with Core i7 processors with clock speeds of 2.2GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.8GHz. The first two are standard models. The clock speeds match those of the recently added models to the Intel price list, so the laptops get an upgrade to the Core i7-4770HQ, Core i7-4870HQ and Core i7-4980HQ respectively. The CPU upgrade involves an increase in clock speed by 0.2GHz.

It is also striking that the cheapest model also gets 16GB of RAM, whereas the laptop now has to do with 8GB. The processor upgrade and memory doubling would not come with a price increase. The 13″ MacBook Pro will probably also receive a processor upgrade: Apple invariably does this after the appearance of new processors from Intel. It is not known whether other amounts of memory will also be used in those models.
