Google adds privacy labels to Gmail on iOS
Google has added a privacy label to the Gmail app for iOS. This has been mandatory for every app since December, but there are still many apps from the internet giant that do not yet show such a label.
The new privacy label was noticed by MacRumors. This is a server-side update, not a new version of the Gmail app for iOS. The changes can be seen in the App Store. It says that Gmail collects data from 28 data points. In addition to diagnostic data and identifiers, emails, text messages, ‘audio data’ and search history are also used for personalization. The location data, a user ID and usage data are collected for third-party advertising.
Gmail is the second Google app to bear the privacy label. Since December, iOS apps must receive a privacy label stating what information an app collects and for what purpose. Earlier this month, Google already added that label to the YouTube app, but so far that was the only Google app to receive the label. It is not yet known when the company plans to label other apps such as Drive or Maps.
