Debian 8 LTS is end-of-life after five years

Debian 8 is end-of-life. The Linux operating system’s Long Term Support has ended as of June 30, developers write. Debian 8 has been supported since April 2015, but will no longer receive security updates.

Debian 8, also known as ‘Jessie’, has officially received end-of-life status. Jessie hasn’t been updated since June 30, but developers are only now announcing the transition. Debian 8 LTS has received security updates since April 26, 2015.

The Long Term Support team will now work on Debian 9 LTS, also known as Stretch. That operating system will also receive security updates for five years, until June 30, 2022. Support for that OS now applies not only to amd64, i386, armel and armhf architectures but also to arm64.
