Meta reports that a quoted price of $800 for its upcoming high-end Project Cambria headset for VR and AR is incorrect. The headset will cost ‘significantly’ more. Meta would like to introduce four new headsets until 2024.

Meta responds with the statement to a message from The Information, which claims based on a roadmap that Meta four new VR headsets until 2024 releases. The site cites two anonymous sources familiar with the plans in its post. They claim that Project Cambria is the first of the four headsets. It should be released in September and cost $800.

That message is incorrect, Meta reports to RoadtoVR, because the price ‘significantly higher’ will be. With that striking statement, Meta seems to want to prevent users from having wrong expectations. Project Cambria is a high-end headset for VR and AR that Meta has been working on for a while. Last year, the company showed a teaser of Project Cambria.

According to The Information sources, Meta employees internally refer to Project Cambria as “laptop for your face” and “Chromebook for your face”. The headset will run an operating system developed by Meta that is based on Android. It was previously announced that the device will receive cameras that register the environment in color and cameras to track users’ eye movements and facial expressions.
