Gangster strategy game Empire of Sin will be released in spring 2020

The gangster strategy game Empire of Sin, created by John and Brenda Romero, will be released next spring. The game is being made for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Mac, and PC.

In Empire of Sin, fourteen bosses want to make their own criminal empire as big as possible. However, the player starts at the bottom of the ladder and has to sell alcohol to friends, for example, with or without poison mixed in. Furthermore, it is up to the player to set up illegal businesses, expand territory and influence, and assemble a loyal team of mobsters.

The game is set in Chicago in the 1920s. Brenda Romero explains that a lot of research has been done and that about half of the criminal bosses actually existed. The other half consists of fictional characters. Based on the choices the player makes, the character traits of the chosen character change.

John Romero explained during a short presentation at the Gamescom trade show that in the strategy game, players need to manage a number of different resources, including money, alcohol and time. If violence has to be used, this is done through what publisher Paradox describes as a tactical turn-based system.
