WD Introduces New Red HDDs With 6TB Capacity

WD has announced new hard drives in its Red series for NAS systems with storage capacities of 5TB and 6TB. In addition, the manufacturer releases business HDDs in the WD Red Pro series for medium and large companies, for NAS systems with up to 16 bays.

The WD Red series consists of 3.5″ SATA drives with which the manufacturer focuses specifically on NAS applications. The line has now been expanded with a 5TB model, the WD50EFRX, with a suggested retail price of 239 euros. If that isn’t enough, there is another 6TB variant, the WD60EFRX, which will cost € 289. The drives are available immediately and WD supplies them with NASware3.0, firmware that is aimed at use in NAS systems with up to eight bays. .

In addition, there is the new business Red Pro series for storage systems with up to sixteen bays. This series consists of models with storage capacities of 2TB, 3TB and 4TB and the prices are 149 euros, 179 euros and 239 euros respectively. These 3.5″ drives rotate at 7200rpm and also come with NASware3.0.

Finally, WD announces that the WD Green series of hard drives will soon be expanded with models with storage capacities of 5TB and 6TB. However, there are no further details about these models yet.
