Microsoft has unveiled its first Windows 7″ tablet at its Worldwide Partner Conference. The tablet will run Windows 8.1 and will be priced “competitive with Android 7″ tablets,” Microsoft said.

The tablet has a 7″ screen and an Intel processor, according to the story of Microsoft’s marketing manager Tony Prophet, who briefly showed the tablet. It is the first time that a 7″ tablet appears with Windows; Until now, the smallest Windows tablets had screens with a diagonal of around 8″; these include Windows Phones with a screen diagonal of 6″, such as the Lumia 1520 and a prototype with 6.5″ screen.

The Toshiba tablet will run on Windows 8.1 and will be backwards compatible with normal desktop apps. It is unknown whether more manufacturers are working on such small Windows tablets. Prophet went on to say that the tablet will be priced about the same as 7″ Android tablets, which generally cost between $200 and $250, although there are also much cheaper and some more expensive models.
