Raspberry Pi Introduces Improved Version of Model B Computer

Raspberry Pi has released a new version of its cheap computer. The Raspberry Pi B+ has the same price and processor as the Model B, but it does its job more economically and has more connectivity options. The layout has also been modified.

Raspberry Pi strongly contradicts that it is a Raspberry Pi 2, but minor improvements have been made to the original Raspberry Pi announced two years ago, in order to arrive at a final model. Model B+ therefore still has the same Broadcom BCM2835 processor, 512MB RAM and the same software.

However, the number of USB 2.0 ports has doubled from 2 to 4 and the SD card slot has been replaced by a micro SD reader in a more accessible place. Furthermore, the 3.5mm jack output supports not only audio, but also composite video, and the audio circuit has been given its own silent power supply for better audio quality. The gpio has been given 40 pins, compared to 26 for the old Model B, the computer’s consumption has been reduced by 0.5W to 1W and the layout of the parts has been adjusted, so that, for example, all ports are only on two sides.

Raspberry Pi is available immediately for the same $35 as the original model. The company will also continue to supply the old version “as long as there is demand.”
