Dovetail Games will continue Microsoft’s Flight Simulator games
Dovetail Games, which is mainly known for its Train Simulator games, has acquired the Flight Simulator license from Microsoft. Dovetail is currently exploring new concepts within the series and expects to release a new game in 2015.
The deal means that Dovetail will be able to use Microsoft’s Flight Simulator technology to develop and release new games. In addition, it will make the Gold Edition of Flight Simulator X available on Steam in late 2014 as Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition. This edition of the latest Flight Simulator game includes the deluxe edition and an expansion pack. Steve Bainbridge, operational chief of Dovetail Games, says he is excited to launch new games in collaboration with fans of the Flight Simulator series.
Microsoft closed the studio that developed all of its Flight Simulator games in early 2009. ACES was closed as a result of a major reorganization that affected the entire company. The development studio left six full-time employees working on Flight Simulator ESP, the development platform based on Flight Simulator X for commercial applications. ESP was used, among other things, to give flying lessons or to test a new instrument for the cockpit.
