Google adds Android screen mirroring support to Chromecast
Google has added the ability to mirror the screen of an Android device to an external screen to Chromecast. The feature was previously announced, and is being rolled out via an update to the Chromecast app.
The necessary update for the Chromecast can only be obtained by installing a beta of the software, Google has announced. The new Chromecast app will soon be available to every user in the Play Store, with the rollout taking a few days. Built into the new Chromecast software is a “cast screen” function that allows users of an Android device to mirror the interface of their smartphone or tablet to an external screen. Previously, it was only possible to stream content such as videos to the Chromecast.
Google previously announced a mirroring function. The internet giant did this during the I/O conference where Android L and other Android software were also announced. The ability to mirror the screen of an Android device has been a much-requested feature among Chromecast users.
