Google puts Android’s default email app in Play Store

Google has put the default mail app of its operating system Android 4.4 in the Android Play Store. The mail app, which also received an update, is similar to that of Gmail and supports mail accounts that use imap, pop3 and Exchange.

E-mail, as the app is called, shows all mails from configured mail accounts in one central timeline and gives users the option to select which folders are synchronized within a mail account. The appearance of the redesigned mail app is very reminiscent of the Android app for Gmail. The email app is said to provide better security for Gmail accounts after the update and now has the ability to print emails. The app is installed by default on all Nexus and some Google Play Edition devices and is currently only available for download on these devices, with the exception of the Play Editions of the HTC One M7 and the Galaxy S4.

Google previously put all its default camera app in the Play Store, for users of Android 4.4. By making the default apps available in the Play Store, users do not have to wait for an Android update to receive new versions of certain apps.
