Rumor: Amazon is working on a smart speaker that responds to voice commands
According to an American business magazine, the department of Amazon that would be responsible for the 3D phone that will probably be announced on Wednesday is also working on a wireless smart speaker that responds to voice commands.
Bussinessweek will not comment on the precise functionality of the speaker, only that the Amazon department Lab126 would work on it. That department would also be responsible for the 3D phone that Amazon is likely to announce later on Wednesday. In addition, the department is said to be working on a device that can “project a computer image onto any surface” and a mobile device to read credit cards.
Furthermore, Businessweek states that the department is responsible for a thinner version of the Kindle Paperwhite, which has been rumored for some time. According to the magazine, Lab126 was previously responsible for Amazon’s Fire TV set-top box and the Amazon Dash, a device that allows users to order household items from AmazonFresh by scanning barcodes.
Lab126 has been working on the 3D smartphone since 2009 that may be announced later on Wednesday. According to previous rumors, the smartphone has four cameras that follow the movements of the user’s head, in order to create a 3D effect. Probably only the American provider AT&T will release the smartphone.
