Pathé will also rent out films via the internet
Pathé has announced that it will start streaming films via the internet in December. The video on demand service will be called Pathé Thuis. With this, films can be rented or purchased approximately four months after the theatrical release.
The cinema operator is currently negotiating with various film distributors and TV providers to enable the service. Movies will be available in SD and HD quality approximately four months after theatrical release. According to Pathé, viewing a film once will cost about 5 euros, while about 14.50 euros must be paid to buy a film.
Technical details about Pathé Thuis have not been disclosed. Opposite Emerce say deputy director Marc Canisius that the service will be introduced for the PC, one or two interactive TVs and possibly a tablet. Ultimately, Pathé wants to try to support any form of distribution, according to Canisius.
