Qualcomm is working on soc for wearables with 12nm Cortex A53 cores

Qualcomm is said to be working on the Snapdragon Wear 2700, a soc based on Cortex A53 cores that Qualcomm would have made at 12nm. Qualcomm’s socs for wearables have so far run with heavily outdated Cortex A7 cores at 28nm.

Qualcomm seems to be basing the soc on the Snapdragon 429 for smartphones, reports WinFuture, which has more often brought up correct information about unannounced Qualcomm socs. The name appears to be Wear 2700, which seems to fall between the previously announced Wear 2100 and 3100.

The soc is far from finished, the German site says. He is still early in development. It would be Qualcomm’s first 64-bit soc for wearables. Almost all watches with Google’s Wear OS use the Qualcomm socs. The market for Android Wear watches has never grown and recently, models from fashion brands have mainly appeared. Manufacturers such as Motorola, Samsung, Huawei and LG have not released new models. It is unknown when the soc should appear. The Wear 3100 is from last year. Before that, Qualcomm only offered the Wear 2100 for several years.
