Asus announces 15.6″ Zenbook NX500 notebook with 4k display
Asus announced a new notebook for professionals at its Computex press conference: the NX500. It is a desktop replacement with powerful hardware and a 15.6″ 4k screen with an extra large color palette.
The NX500 is powered by an Intel Core i7 Haswell CPU from Intel mated to a GTX 850 GPU from Nvidia with 2GB GDDR5 video memory. Depending on the version, there is between 8GB and 16GB of RAM. With the more expensive models, Asus uses a 512GB SSD that is connected directly to the PCI-e x4 bus. There will also be models on the market with 128GB or 256GB of storage via normal SATA SSDs in raid 0.
The silver-gray notebook also contains a hefty 96Wh battery and offers three USB 3.0 ports, a mini-displayport output, an HDMI output and a card reader. One of the USB ports can be used as a gigabit Ethernet connection via an adapter cable. On the wireless front, there is support for Bluetooth and 802.11ac WiFi, allowing up to three streams to be used simultaneously. The laptop is 19mm high at its thickest point and weighs 2.4kg.
Asus puts a lot of emphasis on the screen of the NX500. It is a 15.6″ IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels and a wide color palette. Asus claims that the screen has 148 percent of the sRGB spectrum, 108 percent of the AdobeRGB color space and 100 percent of the NTSC color space. gamut, so the company is targeting graphics professionals with the NX500, and the price reflects that: the notebook will be available from September with a starting price of $1,899.
