Google also stops searching Gmail from companies and governments

In addition to stopping student Gmail accounts, Google will now stop searching corporate and government emails. Google is removing the ability for administrators to turn ads on and off from Google apps for business.

Stopping scanning emails from companies that use Google Apps for Business follows Wednesday’s decision to do so with emails from students, Techcrunch reports. It is unknown why Google will stop scanning emails. It may have to do with a lawsuit currently pending against the company. Google has been sued for allegedly violating US privacy and education-related laws.

The Apps for Business are used by more than five million companies. Due to the update that came out on Wednesday, the apps of the Apps for Education will under no circumstances contain advertising. In late April, it was rumored to be considering adding various encryption capabilities, such as pgp, to Gmail. The company is said to be investigating how pgp support can be added to the mail service; the implementation of pgp would presumably prevent Google from scanning the emails for keywords in order to add advertisements.
