Iberia enables check-in with Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch
Samsung and Spanish airline Iberia are introducing an app that allows Iberia passengers to use their Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch to check in. According to Iberia, the app will be available soon.
This way of checking in is similar to checking in via a smartphone, which has been possible for some time. “We are one of the first airlines to offer such a boarding pass. We think this check-in method will be immensely popular among our passengers,” Miguel Ángel Henales, head of Iberia’s digital division, told Aviation Media.
Samsung released an SDK last month for all products that run on Tizen. This has given developers the opportunity to develop apps for the Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch, among others. On Thursday, Samsung announced the Samsung Gear App Challenge, a competition designed to push the wearable app market in the right direction. The total prize pool of the contest is $1.25 million and the winner of the contest will receive $100,000 for their app.
