IBM’s Watson supercomputer to help consumers shop online

IBM plans to use its Watson supercomputer to give consumers personalized advice when shopping online. Users can ask an app detailed questions, just like they would a store clerk, and then get help with making choices through Watson.

IBM is working with the company Fluid on the Fluid Expert Shopper. According to IBM, research shows that half of all online consumers spend 75 percent of their shopping time doing research on the Internet. The company called the current state of online shopping “inefficient and time-consuming, as consumers have to scramble through websites link by link or enter search terms and hope for good results.”

The Fluid Expert Shopper app should provide a solution for this. The app uses the functionality of the Watson supercomputer to interpret speech and answer questions. Users should also be able to start a conversation with the Expert Shopper Assistant as if they were in a store. Watson uses consumer preferences, combined with information gathered about products, user experiences and expert reviews to provide tailored advice.

The app is another attempt by IBM to monetize Watson. The supercomputer became known worldwide by beating the two best players in the game Jeopardy, in 2011. After that, IBM advanced the system several times for numerous applications, including in healthcare, but so far the supercomputer has not been financially viable. good luck.
