Spanish Wi-Fi provider FON has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Gramofon ‘cloud jukebox’ . The small box supports Spotify upon release, and should be easy to connect to sound systems and routers. Control is via an app.

The Gramofon can be connected to a router either wirelessly or wired and can then be controlled with an iOS or Android app. Initially, the box will only support Spotify and the web radio service WahWah, but the Spanish company says that support will be built in in the future for services such as Google Play Music, Soundcloud, Deezer and others. People who support the campaign will also receive a month of Spotify Premium for free, as well as access to the worldwide FON Wi-Fi network.

The first version of the Gramofon uses a Qualcomm Atheros AR9341 and should ship to Kickstarter participants in July. The jukebox supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi and can also act as a WiFi extender. Connection to an audio system is via a 3.5mm jack connection. Android and iOS apps will be available upon release, with other platforms to follow. At the time of writing, the cheapest options for getting a Gramofon are already sold out. From pledges of converted 36 euros it is still possible to get hold of a copy.
