Intel has shown the Education 2 in 1, a hybrid tablet laptop intended for educational applications. The device, which is built extra sturdy, can be linked to various research tools, such as a lens and a temperature sensor.

The Education 2 in 1 is a reference model that can be modified by other manufacturers. The hybrid design was developed by Intel Education Solutions. The device has a camera on both the front and the back, while the 10.1 “screen can be tilted or detached so that the 2 in 1 can be used in tablet mode. Windows 8.1 has been chosen as the operating system.

Internally, the hybrid includes an Intel Atom Z3740D processor. This quad-core CPU has a clock speed of 1.33GHz and a turbo of 1.83GHz. Thanks to the reinforced design, the Education 2 in 1 can survive a drop of up to 70cm, according to Intel. The tablet laptop is also waterproof and dustproof. The battery is said to last up to almost 8 hours, and an optional dock is also available that can power the device for several more hours.

A lens can be placed on the webcam through which a student can take microscopic or macroscopic images. The images can be viewed in Intel’s educational Lab Camera application. A temperature sensor is also available. Whether manufacturers have already reported to Intel for the release of the Education 2 in 1 is not yet clear.
