SK Hynix has developed a ddr4 module with a capacity of 128 gigabytes. The company claims to be the first to make a DDR4 bar with that capacity. Hynix plans to begin mass production in the first half of next year.

The module is based on 8Gb DDR4 chips that are produced on a process somewhere between 20 and 29nm. The capacity is achieved through the use of through-silicon via or tsv technology, where multiple chips are stacked vertically to form a system-in-package. SK Hynix reports this on the official site. The capacities are as we know them from ddr4. The module works at 2133Mbit/s and can process 17GB of data per second with a 64-bit interface. In addition, the module works on 1.2V instead of the 1.35V that is used with ddr3.

Hynix plans to start production in the first half of 2015. The design will be released in a 64GB and a 128GB version. Nothing is known about price and availability yet.
